It’s never too late to change

Are there parts of yourself or your life that you want to change?
Change is inevitable in our lives and often out of our control. But sometimes when we really want to make a change we can feel stuck. If, for example, we have a bad habit that we’ve had for many years and we keep putting off changing.
One thing we can do to help us change ourselves is to ask God for help.
Dr. George King talks about this in his lecture “The Secret of Personal Prayer.” He says:
“There’s no good appealing to God or any other force for help, courage, determination, good health, protection, unless you allow a change to come through you.
“Oh you won’t change overnight, and you will not become a saint. We have yet to meet a saint on this planet, unless he may belong to the Spiritual Hierarchy. But you can and must make a determined change, even though it be a gradual one.”
There is nothing wrong in asking for help in bringing about change within ourselves. But once we ask for help, we have to follow through and make the changes.
Dr. King goes on to say:
“…what is original about it is this definite statement that the prayer must change. And the more you do, the more confidence you will have in yourself. Then you will start a really big building up process.
“You will have confidence, you will have determination, you will have courage, you will have fortitude, you will have better health, be it mental or physical health—which we all need—good mental and physical health.”
Who we are today is an accumulation of who we were yesterday. Who we will be tomorrow, depends on how we live today.
It is never too late to change.

I am an imperfect person. My mom always jokes that if we were perfect, we would be boring.
But while I don’t think we should get too down on ourselves for our faults, and we should have a good sense of humor about it, it is good to take note of your imperfections and try to improve them.
What I have found in regards to overcoming a negative trait, or a bad habit in my life, is that starting is the hardest part.
The first time I try to make a new habit, it’s difficult, but the more I put effort into the change, the more motivated I get about it. I can begin to see the change taking place.
And that’s something easy to feel good about. It’s encouraging and helps me to follow through on the change.
Something you can try
Dr. King’s address on “The Secret of Personal Prayer” is available on Aetherius Cloud. I highly recommend this. It’s a wonderful practice – a simple way of looking at yourself honestly and making positive changes in your life.
Give this practice a try and let me know how it went.
