How to live a more meaningful life

How can we lead a more meaningful life?
Deep down, we all want to feel good about ourselves. Yet it’s so easy to get caught up with all the distractions in life – things that make us feel entertained for a while, but are ultimately unfulfilling, meaningless. They’re like the cotton candy of existence – sweet for a moment, but gone in a flash.
But when we act on the promptings from the voice of our higher self – the gentle whispers of wisdom from within – we feel as if we are doing the right thing. It’s like an inner compass, guiding us in the right direction.
The best way to align our actions with the guidance of our higher self is by training ourselves to listen to our intuition.
Master of Yoga, Dr. George King, said:
“Now, you might say, “Well, alright, we have this intuitive ability. How do we train it?” There’s only one way. There are not two. There’s one. That is to listen to your intuition and act upon it, and the more you do this the more it will be trained. You must, within your mind, within yourself, within your heart, try to differentiate between your basic conscious likes and beliefs, and the higher guidance which comes from within you.
“When you have formed this differentiation then listen to this higher guidance. You will not like what it says. The guidance it will give you will not be the easiest path for you to take, probably often by far the most difficult, but it will be the surest path for you to take.”
While listening to your intuition will not always be easy, you will grow more. You will learn more. You will have more meaning and fulfillment in your life.

I’ll admit that I have not always listened to my intuition. But I’ve been working on changing that. Over the last 10 years, I have really made an effort to do so.
A few years ago my husband and I were living in London and we were planning to move to Los Angeles. The visa process is extensive and it was taking much longer than we expected.
It suddenly occurred to me that, as a citizen, I did not need to wait for my husband’s visa to come through in order to move to Los Angeles. I could move earlier.
I was not happy about this realization. I did not want to move countries on my own. I loved living in London and all of our friends there. But at the same time, my intuition was telling me it was the right thing to do. So I did it.
As it turned out, it was 100% the right decision. I was able to start working for The Aetherius Society full time, which meant that I was able to be a part of certain projects that I would have missed out on had I waited to move. I was also able to use the free time I had at home, by myself, to learn an important skill for a new role at the Society.
Just as Dr. King said, I did not like what my intuition told me, but it has turned out to be the surest path.
Something you can try
Spiritual practices are a very practical way to help you calm and clear the mind, so that you can better listen to your intuition. Practicing the first of the breathing exercises Dr. King taught is an excellent way to start feeling peace, and it can be done in just a few minutes.
Have you ever had a time when you were glad you listened to your intuition?
