Creating spiritual happiness

As within, so without.

What we feel inside is what we send out to the world. Similarly, what we take in from the world, affects how we feel inside.

If we feel good, we can uplift other people around us. If we feel bad, we have to be careful not to send negativity out to the world.

Even the smallest of our actions can be positive, uplifting, spiritual actions. As Dr. George King said in his lecture on Spiritual Happiness:

“You know, the word, ‘spiritual,’ in my dictionary, applies to most everyday actions, as well as mystical practices, whether it is the work done by a waiter, serving a meal in a restaurant, or that done by a person in this room giving divine healing. Both these jobs can be acts of spiritual service.

Without this right outlook on life, you cannot ever know what true spiritual happiness means.”

Treating everything we do as a spiritual action can generate spiritual happiness within us. We can then share it outwards. This in turn, will make us feel even more joy.

I believe in that phrase, “fake it, ’till you make it.”

Many years ago, I went skydiving with some friends.

This was not something that I normally did. I am not an adrenaline junkie! I don’t like to fly and I don’t really like heights.

But my friends wanted to go and I thought that perhaps I could feel more comfortable with flying and heights if I faced my fears.

It did not work.

I was very frightened, but one of my friends was even worse – she was absolutely terrified. After the plane took off, she started crying.

Because she was so upset, I decided to pretend not to be afraid, and to be positive and light-hearted about it so that she would feel more comfortable.

By doing this, I was focusing my mind on thinking of positive things, funny things – ways to cheer her up – rather than why I was afraid.

And it worked! We both had a good laugh about it, felt more relaxed and faced our fears.

Something you can try

Dr. King gave the following advice:

“If you train your subconscious mind always to impress positive thoughts, it will impress positive thoughts. And the only way you can do that is by the conscious mind training the subconscious mind, and it will begin to manifest within you. Not it might, it will—it’s proven. It’s been proven for thousands of years, this continual positive affirmation.”

Let’s try to train our minds to be positive each day.

Have you had an experience where you improved the situation by taking a more positive and spiritual outlook?
