A Simple Step Towards Spiritual Happiness

What makes you feel happy?
We are all different, but one thing everyone likes is the feeling of accomplishment.
When we have done a good job or performed a task well, we feel good.
In a lecture entitled “Become More Useful Humans” Dr. George King said:
“I maintain that one of the foremost lessons in yoga is this. Not only are you supposed to give everything to the particular practice which you’re doing, but on the morrow, you’re supposed to give everything to the world—in no matter what job you do.
“If you are taught to do a spiritual exercise—no matter what it may be—prayer, for instance, correctly and you do it correctly, and you have a faith in the outcome of that because the outcome has been proved to you, as it will be.
“When you wash up, when you drive your car, at business, throughout the whole of your life you will begin to develop that same kind of exactness. You will want to do every job that you have to do correctly. And when you do this—and I don’t believe until, but when you do this—you will discover a certain satisfaction, a certain happiness.”
Living our lives to the best of our ability is a habit that will bring great spiritual joy.
Consistency is key. By doing the best we can in everything that we do, we make it a habit.
***
I remember a time when I was participating in a Twelve Blessings Service that was dedicated to a war-torn area.
I really got into it.
I felt really focused on the blessings, I wasn’t thinking about anything else. I could really feel the energy.
Several other people in the group felt the same, and so I felt we were able to send out a lot of energy. It made me feel that although I was far away from a very serious problem, I was able to help in some way.
It made me feel less helpless. Even though I didn’t know exactly how the energy was going to be used, I felt good that I was able to help in some way.
Something you can try
Choose something in your daily life that you do regularly that you don’t really pay much attention to and could do better, and start to do it to the best of your ability.
What was the outcome? How did it make you feel?
